HOSA is a national student organization that offers a comprehensive program aimed at fostering leadership development, motivation, and recognition for secondary, postsecondary, collegiate, and adult students specializing in health science, biomedical sciences, and related fields that prepare the upcoming generation of healthcare professionals.

HOSA's competitive events program, structured according to the National Healthcare Foundation Standards, supports students in becoming career-ready and prepared for college life. It encompasses six event categories: health science, health professions, emergency preparedness, leadership, teamwork, and recognition. The 55 competency-based events included in this program provide a diverse array of teaching methodologies, rubrics, and authentic assessments for educators to elevate student engagement and facilitate effective learning.

Recognizing the significance of imparting instruction that extends beyond technical competencies necessary for entering the healthcare sector, HOSA assumes a distinctive role in grooming students for higher education pursuits and obtaining entry-level certifications (such as EMT, CNA, pharmacy technician, etc.) The dynamic healthcare landscape requires committed professionals who possess not just technical proficiency but also interpersonal skills and the versatility to assume leadership or supportive roles within healthcare teams. As a student-led organization comprising aspiring healthcare professionals, HOSA offers avenues for students to nurture, put into practice, and hone their academic, technical, leadership, and teamwork skills to achieve a smooth transition from educational settings to professional careers.
